Noestheden culls these compositions from miniscule star and star grouping illustrations found in Astronomy books and guides to the universe. These tiny ( 1/8th inch) drawings are interpreted from telescopic photographs in order to articulate scale and relative spatial relationships. Noestheden investigates the interpretive modeling of space and scale by regenerating the illustrations through numerous photocopier enlargements to 8 1/2 x 11 inch transparencies. The artist then projects these transparencies onto 30 x 42 inch Arches paper, and painstakingly reproduces the projections with India ink, pens and brushes. Photocopier "noise" (imperfections) becomes an integral part of the drawings. All of these "imagings" are interpretive actions which attempt to represent unfathomable scale.
